RFA MAINE (3)  1921-1947
Hospital Ship.  GRT 5891. Built Fairfield, Glasgow in 1902, as Panama for PSNC. 401 x 52 x 34 feet. Twin screw triple expansion. Chartered as hospital ship during WW1 and purchased by Admiralty 1920. Most of her career with the Med Fleet except briefly China 1926 and Jubilee Review 1935. Busy during Spanish Civil and Graeco-Turkish wars. Normally based in Marsamuscetto, Malta and during WW2 at Alexandria.
Damaged by near miss in air raid 1941. Further damaged in Corfu Incident 1946. Paid off , sold and scrapped 1947.
