RFA OLNA (2) 1945-1966
Built Swan Hunter 1945. 17,500dwt.
Length overall: 583ft. Beam: 70ft. Draught: 31ft. Depth: 40ft 6in.
Machinery: 2 X BTH steam turbines, 1 l,000shp, driving two generators 4200kW/3000V ac, connected to electric motor, single shaft Speed: 16.5 knots Complement: 77 RFA.
Ordered as Hyalina for Shell. Initially commissioned as HMS Olna. (Complement 183 RN).
She took part in the Coronation fleet review on 15 June 1953, and starred as Altmark in "Battle of the River Plate" in 1955. She was involved in Operation 'Musketeer' in 1956, and in 1957 was in Operation 'Grapple', the nuclear bomb tests. Olna was sold in December 1966 for breaking up.
