RFA ENNERDALE (2) 1967-1970
Built 1963 as Naess Scotsman, chartered from Naess, Denholm. Converted at Hebburn in October 1967. Photo 1969.
1969 awarded Wilkinson Sword of Peace for rescue work at Gough Island. 1 June 1970, on sailing from Port Victoria she struck an uncharted rock pinnacle and sank in twenty minutes. Position 04 29 36N 55 31 22E, (230 degrees 1.25 miles from Mamelle Light, Seychelles).
Her eighteen British officers and forty-two seamen from the Seychelles all safely abandoned the tanker.
