Launched as Hudson Cavalier and then spent a long period in the Mersey in lay up prior to completion. She arrived in the River Tyne on 10 December 1978 for conversion for RFA duties and she commenced service in February 1979. Appleleaf was sold in 1989 and renamed HMAS Westralia.
Serious fire 1998. Decommissioned 2006. Sold as storage vessel 2007, renamed Shiraz.
